The Point Vierge
"If we dwell in the Mercy,
does it also dwell in us?
If mercy is about connection, then presumably there must be an actual point of contact where our own innermost ground and the Mercy meet as simply One."

A High-Summer Greeting to you all!

Dear friends
I am just now getting reorganized at my little hermitage after our Wisdom School in Minnesota, which, I am delighted and grateful to report, struck a new high water mark of subtlety and profundity, thanks largely to the inspired teaching brought by Darlene Franz and her inquiry into "Singing and Conscious Attention". Not quite singing lessons, not quite mindfulness training, but a magical blend of both, it helped us all to relax, embody, chant more confidently and musically, and cruise the updrafts of vibration (both personal and collective) "in which all things hold together." It was amazing to watch people get used to a different sort of attunement, not just of the mind, but of energy fields as well, and to watch the level of attention held by the group become finer and more sensitive. And you should have heard our six-drum percussion band belt out a stunning rendition of a new chant by Darlene, "Always and Everywhere, Rejoice in the One who is All" at our final contemplative liturgy to send us all home on a high note (literally!) of beauty and affirmation.
Since Wisdom is not knowing more but knowing DEEPER--knowing with more of ourselves engaged--it has been a pleasure to team up with Darlene to incorporate her groundbreaking work into the standard wisdom school curriculum. She will be joining us in upcoming schools in Tucson, Seattle and West Virginia--and if we can swing it logistically, for one session of our Advanced Wisdom School in Hudson Valley. She is also beginning to offer this material in a solo workshop format, with engagements in Bellingham,WA, Victoria, and soon, New Zealand. If you click on the link below, you will find her reflections on breath; from time to time I hope to share more of her work with you on this site.

Advanced Wisdom School News
The first session of the three part Advanced Wisdom School will begin the end of September. Each session is 5 days and will be held at the Bethany Retreat Center in Highland Mills, New York. Cynthia has shared some of the details of the upcoming exploration and as we prepare for the time of teaching, meditation and conscious work, we ask that you hold us in your thoughts and prayers.
Cynthia writes: There will be two major thrusts to our work; the first, congnitve, the second experiential/formational. With regard to the first, our touchstone will be the question " What is unique about The Christian metaphysical tradition?"
We will probe deeply into The Trinity as the "rosetta stone" of Christian metaphysics. To be a Christian Wisdom practitioner is essentially to know how to work with the Trinity wisely and well. I will be pioneering some of my own new material from my upcoming next book, The Holy Trinity and The Law of Three.
The second, and more important task of this Wisdom School is to deepen the process of Wisdom formation through a practical exploration of how Wisdom is "caught, not taught" through the increasing ability of each practitioner to wield the energy of attention and intention through conscious presence. We will learn how to bring ourselves into presence, to find the internal balance point between will and surrender, and to "hold the teacher's post" flexibly, from a prepared heart rather than a prepared curriculum.
We will be posting more information about the Advanced Wisdom School in future newsletters.

God as Us! Sacred Masculine and Sacred Feminine Retreat Cynthia and Richard Rohr in Albuquerque
July 22-24, 2011
The retreat opened to the beautiful song "Mirror my Soul" by Michelle Grubert, and the mirroring of masculine and feminine was echoed throughout the retreat as Cynthia and Richard each came to the podium and called us to a relational, compassionate connection. The Feast of Mary Magdalene, the one chosen as the mirror of conscious love expressed by Jesus, was celebrated deeply and intimately by a room of 700 people. How is that possible?
The synergy of the two Contemplatives, Richard and Cynthia, and the exquisite preparation by the staff at the Center for Action and Contemplation allowed the Albuquerque Hotel ballroom to become the container for the wisdom teaching of kenosis (letting go) and generosity (the divine dance of giving and receiving). As Cynthia brought forward the 5th way path of conscious love we learned to annoint each other, to hear a heartfelt male to female and female to male healing apology, and to feed each other across the Eucharistic table. In this beautiful time together, we knew how a room of 700 people from around the world can be held as intimate friends in abundant love.
